How to Participate

A general plan is only successful when it reflects the priorities and values of the community. In the City of Santa Clara, community members, City staff and City officials will help guide the planning process through a series of meetings. But, we need to hear from all voices. What do you like about the City? What needs improvement? This is your opportunity to say how the City should develop over the next 20 years.

No matter where you live or how much time you have to spare, there are important ways you can contribute to this process. We invite you to come to a workshop or public meeting to share your vision for the City’s future. You can also fill out a survey, which will be available on-line here and provided to residents. More information about the survey and its distribution will be provided in Spring 2008. In addition, there will be comment forms available here on-line. Please let us know what you think! Workshops

Citywide workshops will be conducted six times during the General Plan Update process to synthesize issues, visions, and policies from the community at-large. Each workshop will be structured as an event for the entire family. Multiple techniques to engage participants; maximize opportunities for discussion; and incorporate citizen input into the planning process will be a key part of each workshop. Steering Committee

The City of Santa Clara has established a General Plan Update Steering Committee to help chart the future of the city. Four residents were selected to serve on the committee that also includes representatives of the City Council and City Commissions. The Steering Committee will help guide the Update process over a two-year period. The Committee will provide leadership, review City staff and consultant research and technical analyses, and provide input for and confirm key issues, visions, and land use planning policies. Meeting dates and times will be selected by committee consensus, but are expected to occur about every six weeks on weekday evenings, and will be open to the public.
